Mumbai: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has directed all telecom operators to pre-tag variable components in commercial SMS templates to curb fraud and phishing attacks.
Variable components are parts of messages that change from recipient to recipient – such as URLs, app download links, or callback numbers – even as the main text stays the same. Under the new rule, senders must tag each variable field during template registration and specify its purpose.
