ChatGPT with GPT 5.1 Instant, Thinking models launched, ‘it can do adaptive thinking,’ says Sam Altman

After a controversial release earlier in the year, OpenAI has released a new update to ChatGPT to address some of the concerns. It’s called GPT-5.1 and is now live for all users currently utilising GPT-5.0. This upgrade introduces two variants, which include GPT-5.1 Instant and GPT-5.1 Thinking. Both are designed to deliver smarter, more engaging interactions, with both of them focusing on personalisation.
