AI to drive surge in data bandwidth: Ciena

AI is expected to drive a dramatic surge in data bandwidth demand, fundamentally transforming how networks are designed and scaled and as this growth accelerates, addressing high-capacity requirements will emerge as a key priority for the telecom industry, according to a Ciena executive.

“On the infrastructure front, we are seeing a major shift as data center capacity rapidly expands. Earlier, the focus was on the cloud era — building digital ecosystems atop cloud data centers. Now, the transition to AI infrastructure, powered by data-hungry GPUs, is driving a new wave of network demand,” Gautam Billa, Vice President, International Sales Engineering, Ciena, told ETTelecom in an interview.
