OpenAI claims over a million users weekly discuss suicides with ChatGPT

OpenAI has released data suggesting a potentially alarming scenario where people are relying on the AI chatbot for serious mental health issues. The company says that over one million of ChatGPT’s active users per week engage in conversations indicating potential suicidal planning or intent. OpenAI stated that 0.15% of ChatGPT’s weekly active users have conversations that include explicit indicators of suicidal ideation.

Given that the platform boasts over 800 million weekly active users, this percentage translates to more than a million people every week, TechCrunch reported.
