Amazon to pay $2.5 billion to settle FTC lawsuit: How to check if you’re eligible

Amazon is soon set to start paying $1.5 billion to customers as part of a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over its Prime subscription practices. Last month, Amazon and the FTC agreed to a settlement after the US agency filed a 2023 complaint accusing Amazon of “knowingly duping” people into enrolling in automatically renewing Prime subscriptions and “complicating the cancellation process.” Amazon said at the time of the settlement that the company and its executives “have always followed the law.”

The FTC claims followed a 2022 Business Insider investigation that showed Amazon executives were aware of difficulties in the cancellation process but did not address them.
