OpenAI pauses Sora videos of Martin Luther King Jr. after estate’s request; read official statement

OpenAI’s Sora app recently sparked outrage after it created realistic videos of long-dead public figures, including Martin Luther King Jr. to Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Robin Williams. Now, the company has shared an official statement announcing that it has paused Sora video generations depicting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. OpenAI shared a post on X where it addresses concerns over how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s likeness is represented in Sora generations.

The post said that the some users generated “disrespectful depictions of Dr. King’s image” and following requests from his estate, the company has paused generation of such videos.
