5G to boost India’s rural development: Ericsson’s Andres Vicente

NEW DELHI: India continues to outpace China and the US with the highest gigabyte (GB) per smartphone user consumption worldwide, with the next generation (5G) network supporting the development of the country’s rural regions, a senior Ericsson executive said.

“India today accounts the highest consumption per gigabyte per user – more than 32 GB (per month), which is significantly ahead of the US and China,” Andres Vicente, head of Southeast Asia, Oceania & India, Ericsson said, adding that “5G is supporting the development of rural areas” and reaching the gap in technology in those areas that really need it.
