MapmyIndia, a domestic competitor of Google Maps, has urged the government to mandate pre-installation of its mobile application, Mappls, on smartphones produced under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. The move aims to take advantage of the Centre’s push for “Swadeshi” in digital services.
In the last 10-15 days, the New Delhi-based company has seen a ten times increase in daily downloads after IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw publicly endorsed Mappls, alongside Zoho, as Indian alternatives to products by foreign tech companies.
