Draft rules contravene Telecom Act, may impact GMPCS, VSAT players: BIF to Scindia

NEW DELHI: Satellite communications (satcom) majors Hughes, OneWeb, and Nelco said that the draft telecom service authorisation rules, by treating global mobile personal communication by satellite (GMPCS) and very-small aperture terminal (VSAT) as only systems, have become inconsistent with the Telecommunications Act, 2023.

This, they said, would create an impractical business environment for GMPCS and VSAT players, investors, and impact consumers, while impeding the bridging of the digital divide.
