BSNL Q1 loss at Rs 1,050 cr

Close to its Silver Jubilee Year, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) announced its Q1 results. The company has sunk to a loss of Rs 1,049 crore from the previous two quarters wherein it had posted a net profit of Rs 280 crore in the January-March period and Rs 262 crore in the December quarter.
Its sequential revenue for the quarter has come down substantially by Rs 2,037 crore to Rs 5,878 crore, from Rs 7,824 crore, due to poor performance in all the three segments – fixed, mobile, and enterprise services. Poor performance in revenue in mobile is a worrying factor, especially when BSNL has commissioned all of its 4G towers. Similarly, decline in revenue in enterprise services, which was seen an ever-green segment for BSNL, should be alarming. Sequentially, Ebitda has also come down to half to Rs 1,502 crore
