OpenAI CEO Sam Altman meets UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to boost AI research and usage

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to discuss closer cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) research and its application. As reported by the UAE state news agency WAM, the meeting at Qasr Al Shati focused on aligning OpenAI’s work with the UAE’s plan to build a strong AI ecosystem. The country aims to support its development goals, foster a knowledge-based economy, and enhance its global standing in AI. Altman praised the UAE’s AI vision and its international collaborations.

In recognition of his role in advancing AI, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) awarded Altman its first honorary doctorate.
