Anthropic is going the OpenAI way; confirms expanding its global workforce in India and other countries

AI startup Anthropic is set to expand its global workforce. The Google and Amazon-backed AI startup is reportedly planning to hire a country lead for India and triple its international employee count by 2025. This major expansion, which includes a fivefold increase in its applied AI team, signals the $183 billion company’s focus on international enterprise markets and intensified competition with rivals like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. The move comes as global demand drives the company’s growth, with nearly 80% of Claude’s usage now originating outside the United States. Anthropic is seeking to hire country heads for India, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and Singapore, and is expanding its presence across Europe, according to the report. Currently, India is the second-largest market for Anthropic’s Claude AI chatbot, accounting for 7.2% of its usage share. The expansion effort is being undertaken as rival OpenAI prepares to enter the country by the end of 2025.
