OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes artificial intelligence could help solve one of humanity’s toughest challenges — curing cancer. In a recent blog post titled Abundant Intelligence, Altman said that with 10 gigawatts of computing power, AI might unlock breakthroughs in medicine, including advanced cancer treatment and personalized learning tools for students. If “AI stays on the trajectory”, he said, it can figure out how to cure cancer.

To achieve this, OpenAI has set what Sam Altman calls the “10-gigawatt challenge,” aiming to build factories capable of adding one gigawatt of AI capacity every week.
