Nepal’s government has lifted its ban on major social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram. This come after a violent crackdown on protests left at least 19 people dead. The unrest, which was sparked by the social media ban, saw a massive turnout of young demonstrators, often referred to as “Gen Z.” The government’s retreat on Tuesday morning, with all 26 blocked platforms coming back online, seems to be an attempt to quell the rising fury.
