Apple may be in talks with Google for ‘AI deal’ to power next-generation Siri
Apple is reportedly in early discussions with Google to potentially license its Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model to power a significant revamp of the Siri voice assistant. This move, which is seen as a major shift for the iPhone maker, has been working to catch up in the evolving field of generative AI. Citing sources familiar with the private discussions, Bloomberg reported that Apple recently approached Google to explore the possibility of using a customised version of the Gemini AI model.
The goal is to create a more capable foundation for a new Siri, which could debut as early as next year, the report said, adding that Google has already begun training a model designed to run on Apple’s own servers.
