Telecom Rules under the scanner

A Parliamentary Committee on Subordinate Legislation of the Rajya Sabha, under the chairmanship of Milind Murli Deora, has presented its 255th Report in July 2025, examining the Telecommunications (Critical Telecommunication Infrastructure) Rules, 2024 and the Telecommunications (Telecom Cyber Security) Rules, 2024, notified under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. While acknowledging the importance of these frameworks for safeguarding India’s telecom infrastructure and cybersecurity, the Committee identified a number of legal, procedural, definitional and operational concerns that warranted redressal to ensure effective and balanced implementation.
