Cyber-crimes India saw multi-fold increase: Govt

On July 30, 2025, in response to a question about the increasing incidents of cyber fraud in the country and the steps being taken by the central government to address them, minister of state in the ministry of home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar presented alarming statistics from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), revealing a nearly 900 per cent increase in reported cyber fraud incidents over the past four years (between 2021 and 2025). His reply outlined a detailed and multi-layered strategy being implemented to strengthen cybercrime mitigation and ensure safer digital engagement across the country.

The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) data reveals a consistent and concerning rise in cyber fraud incidents across the country. In 2021, 4.52 lakh incidents were reported, which more than doubled to over 10.29 lakh in 2022.
