Smart meter rollout faces hurdles: Connectivity, awareness, billing fears

Smart meter installations face significant barriers due to its alignment with outdated utility infrastructure, unreliable connectivity, low awareness, slow and cumbersome procurement process, misconceptions about billing, and privacy concerns, according to a survey from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Complex and fragmented regulatory frameworks, which lead to delays in project approvals and implementation and slow cumbersome procurement processes, is also a concern among some respondents.
