WhatsApp deletes 6.8 million accounts linked to criminal scam centers: Meta

NEW DELHI: Instant messaging platform WhatsApp has deleted 6.8 million accounts linked to criminal scam centers that targeted people globally, its parents Meta Platforms said in a recent blog.

‘In the first six months of this year, as part of our ongoing proactive work to protect people from scams, WhatsApp detected and banned over 6.8 million accounts linked to scam centers,’ Meta said, adding that it proactively detected and took down accounts before scam centers were able to operationalise them.
