Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI is eliminating the job title “researcher” and exclusively use “engineer” for all technical staff, following a public correction of an employee’s hiring post on Twitter. The move came after xAI employee Aditya Gupta posted a job listing seeking researchers and engineers. Gupta wrote, “we at @xai are looking for researchers and engineers for scaling up our rl environments with user feedback and preference in the loop. apply here (or drop me a dm).” Musk responded directly, declaring the terminology change effective immediately.
