Amazon layoffs: Company may have cut at least hundreds of jobs, this unit hit
Amazon’s cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has cut at least hundreds of jobs on Thursday (July 17), news agency Reuters reported citing two sources. This move comes just a month after CEO Andy Jassy indicated that the increasing adoption of generative AI tools would lead to a reduced workforce. With the latest cuts, Amazon joins other tech giants such as Microsoft, Facebook parent Meta and Intel that have continued to lay off hundreds of employees this year.
The agency said that while an Amazon spokesperson confirmed the layoffs, they did not provide specific numbers. Amazon reported 1.6 million full and part-time employees globally at the end of March.
