Copyright payment through online mode

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through its Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), has issued a notification dated June 4, 2025, publishing the draft “Copyright (Amendment) Rules, 2025”. These proposed rules aim to amend the existing “Copyright Rules, 2013” and were notified in accordance with Section 78 of the Copyright Act, 1957.

The proposed amendment introduces a new provision that mandates the “establishment and exclusive use of an online payment system” for the collection of license fees for certain categories of copyrighted works.
