Violation of human rights: NHRC takes cognizance of Ashoka professor arrest

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday said it has taken suo moto cognizance of a news report which “prima facie discloses” that the arrest of Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad violates his human rights and liberty.

Mahmudabad is associate professor and head of the Political Science Department at Ashoka University. He was arrested earlier this week for a social media post over India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, which targeted nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).
