CBI busts SIM card fraud network: 39 accused identified

In a major crackdown on cyber fraud facilitated through fake SIM cards, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has identified 39 Point of Sale (PoS) dealers across India, including nine from Uttar Pradesh, involved in issuing SIM cards using forged identities. These SIMs were being used to perpetrate a wide range of cybercrimes such as digital arrest scams, spying, fake advertisements, investment frauds and UPI- related frauds.

According to sources, the fraudulent operations in Uttar Pradesh were spread across six districts—Lucknow, Agra, Hathras, Hardoi, Kannauj, and Unnao. The CBI had recently conducted raids at the premises of these dealers.
