India emerges as YouTube “Creator Nation” with massive content uploads; company to invest Rs 850 crore in creator economy

India has firmly established its dominance on the YouTube platform, with over 100 million channels uploading content in the past year, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced at the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai. Mohan declared India a burgeoning “Creator Nation,” highlighting that more than 15,000 of these channels have surpassed the one million subscriber mark.

The YouTube chief also revealed the platform’s significant economic impact, stating that over ₹21,000 crore has been paid to Indian creators, artists, and media companies in the last three years.
