Smart metre installation will only meet a quarter of the target for FY26

Bengaluru: India’s power distribution sector is undergoing a critical transformation with the push towards smart grids, but the installation of smart metres has been lagging so much that only 25% of the 25 crore metres that were to be installed by March 2026 are likely to be done, according to a report by CareEdge Ratings out on Friday.
