The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has sounded the alarm across the United States, warning of a rapidly spreading wave of “smishing” attacks aimed at deceiving iPhone and Android users into surrendering sensitive personal and financial information. The term “smishing,” a blend of “SMS” and “phishing,” refers to fraudulent text messages designed to trick recipients into revealing passwords, credit card numbers, and other confidential data. Authorities report that cybercriminals have registered over 10,000 domains to power these scams, which have surged fourfold since January 2025.
