This may be the ‘$12 billion proof’ that all is not well between Microsoft and ChatGPT maker OpenAI
In a blockbuster move shaking up the AI infrastructure landscape, OpenAI has signed a five-year, $11.9 billion agreement with CoreWeave, a GPU-heavy cloud service provider, as first reported by Reuters and confirmed by CoreWeave in a press release. The deal, which includes OpenAI acquiring $350 million in CoreWeave equity, marks a significant win for both companies and underscores shifting alliances in the race for AI dominance. What makes the deal interesting is that is that before this deal, CoreWeave’s biggest customer is reported to be Microsoft. According to TechCrunch, in 2024, Microsoft accounted for 62% of CoreWeave’s revenue, which grew to a stunning $1.9 billion — nearly an eight-fold increase from just $228.9 million in 2023.
