Google is making this Big change to the way you login to Gmail
Google is phasing out SMS-based authentication for Gmail in favour of a more secure QR code system. The tech giant will be implementing this change later this year, aiming to bolster account security and reduce reliance on vulnerable text message codes, a report has said. This move aligns with the broader industry trend of moving away from traditional passwords and SMS-based authentication, which are susceptible to phishing attacks and other security vulnerabilities, Ross Richendrfer, Google’s head of security and privacy public relations, told Forbes.
Richendrfer alsi also saod that users will soon be prompted to scan a QR code to verify their phone numbers, replacing the current two-factor authentication method that involves typing in a code received via SMS.
