Google Maps has officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” for users in the United States, following a Trump administration executive order that formally renamed the body of water on February 11, 2025.
The change affects how the gulf, which spans between Mexico’s eastern coast and Florida’s panhandle, appears on both web and mobile versions of Google Maps. Users in Mexico will continue to see “Gulf of Mexico,” while international users will see both names, with “Gulf of America” in parentheses.
