Japan, US and South Korea issue joint statement on $235 million hacking of ‘India Ka Bitcoin Exchange’ WazirX

Japan, South Korea and the US have issued a joint statement blaming North Korea and its Lazarus Group for the $235 million hack of India’s largest crypto exchange, WazirX. This cyberattack, which occurred in July 2024, resulted in WazirX losing nearly 45% of its crypto assets and halting its operations. The three countries pledged to continue collaborating to counter North Korea’s cyberattacks and illegal revenue generation through sanctions and improved cybersecurity measures in the Indo-Pacific region.
