Telecom firm told to pay Rs 20k for number remaining inactive for 5 years
Bengaluru: A person with disability whose mobile number remained inactive for over five years after he ported it to Reliance Jio has been awarded a compensation of Rs 15,000. The Bengaluru Urban I additional district consumer disputes redressal commission recently ordered telecom giant Reliance Jio to also pay him Rs 5,000 as additional costs.
Ramalingeswara Rao KV, a 47-year-old Bommanahalli resident, ported his mobile number to Reliance Jio on March 7, 2017, and paid a membership fee of Rs 99. The sim initially worked, but lost network connectivity in July 2017. Despite his first recharge on Dec 14, 2017, the number remained inactive.
