Advantage India: After bumper Apple yield, Tata’s crop diversification

Apple has achieved a remarkable milestone in India. The tech giant’s iPhone production reached a freight-on-board (FOB) value of $10 billion in the first seven months of FY25 (April-October 2024), Union Minister Ashwinin Vaishnaw shared on X last month. Behind Apple’s remarkable growth in India are three vendors — Taiwanese manufacturers Foxconn and Pegatron and India’s Tata Electronics. It was reported recently that Tata group might buy into the India operations of Pegatron – almost a year after acquiring the business of another supplier Wistron – making it one of the biggest contract supplier to the American electronics giant along with Taiwanese giant Foxconn.
