EY-IAMAI report on Piracy

India suffers an annual loss of Rs 22,400 crore due to piracy, as highlighted by the EY-IAMAI report titled “The Rob Report.” This staggering figure places piracy fourth in the ranking of revenue segments within India’s Media and Entertainment industry.

Breaking down the numbers, Rs 13,700 crore of the losses are attributed to pirated content from movie theatres, while Rs 8,700 crore comes from OTT platforms. Additionally, potential GST losses are estimated at Rs 4,300 crore. Despite a significant increase in subscription revenue since the pandemic, with a 150 pc rise, the report reveals that 51 pc of media consumers in India still access content from pirated sources.
