Facebook-parent Meta may have a $10 billion ‘plan’ to support AI investments
Meta is reportedly planning to build a massive subsea cable to support its growing internet traffic and AI investments. Citing sources close to the social media giant, a report by Techcrunch claims that this ambitious project is expected to stretch over a distance of 40,000+ kilometres across the world and is estimated to cost over $10 billion.
If the rumours turn out to be true, this will mark the first time for Meta to solely own and operate a subsea cable. This development also highlights the company’s increasing focus on controlling its infrastructure.
