Real estate firm loses Rs 24 lakh to cyber frauds posing as its director’s father

A PUNE-based real estate firm lost Rs 24 lakh in a whale phishing attack after cyber criminals, posing as the father of the company director, messaged the firm’s accounts staffer, asking her to make large fund transfers into fraudulent accounts saying it was for the purchase of materials.

An FIR was registered at Shivajinagar police station on Tuesday night by the 28-year-old director of the firm. Officials said an employee of the company from the accounts department, who has been given access to the online banking of the company for daily business transactions, was targeted in the attack.
