25 million views and counting: Why this ‘dancing digital art’ by a marathon runner is going viral

Duncan McCabe, a 32-year-old chartered accountant from Toronto, has become an internet sensation by using the route-tracking app Strava to create digital art. By planning his running routes over 121 runs between January and October 2024, McCabe created a dancing stick figure animation that has gone viral. A post shared on social media platform X (earlier Twitter) by a user named Ben Steiner, shows McCabe’s runs recorded on the Strava app stitched together to create a GPS art animation of a stick figure dancing to Sofi Tukker’s “Purple Hat.”
