US senator in open letter to the world’s largest gaming platform: Your platform is full of hate and dangerous content

US senator Mark Warner has called upon Valve CEO Gabe Newell to take action against extremist content on the Steam gaming platform. In a letter to Newell, Warner cited a report by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) that identified a significant number of user accounts and groups promoting hateful ideologies on the world’s largest digital distribution platform for PC games. The ADL report found over 40,000 groups on Steam with names that included hateful terms like “1488,” “shekel,” and “white power.” Warner emphasised that this content violates Steam’s online conduct policy, which prohibits promoting real-world violence and posting inappropriate content.
