PhonePe complains to High Court: Telegram is causing us financial loss

The Madras High Court has directed Telegram to block and delete channels that impersonate PhonePe and redirect payments to scammers. This order came in response to a lawsuit filed by the Walmart-owned digital payments platform PhonePe alleging that these channels on the messaging platform were causing financial losses to the company and its users. Responding to this, Telegram’s counsel said that the platform cannot proactively identify and block such impersonations. However, they assured the court that Telegram would block and delete these channels upon receiving complaints from users and PhonePe. The court accepted this submission and ordered Telegram to promptly address any complaints raised by PhonePe regarding impersonating channels.
