Under ‘digital arrest’, Pune senior citizen loses Rs 45 lakh in cyber fraud

A 73-YEAR-OLD man from Pune was forced to remain confined to his home and not talk to anyone as part of ‘digital arrest’ for four days by Cyber criminals posing as Mumbai police officers who threatened his arrest in drug trafficking and money laundering cases and made him pay Rs 45 lakh.
An FIR in the case was registered at Chaturshrungi police station by the 73-year-old man who is a resident of Pashan. In the first week of September he received a call from a person who identified himself as an officer of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
