Uday Mahurkar seeks legal action against social media and OTT platforms

Uday Mahurkar, a former central information commissioner, on Friday sought legal action against OTT and social media platforms for allegedly producing and disseminating sexually explicit content.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mahurkar, founder of Save Culture Save Bharat Foundation, also alleged that the Delhi Police did not register his FIR against the platforms. “The Delhi Police refused to lodge an FIR based on my complaint… for disseminating explicit material of an appalling nature. This stands in contrast to the Mumbai Police, which lodged an FIR against Ekta and Shobha Kapoor for producing content violating the POCSO Act. Delhi Police’s refusal to act has forced me to turn to the courts,” he alleged.
