Google must open Android for rival third-party app stores, allow them to distribute apps and pay for transactions within them, a US judge has ruled in the Google vs Epic Games case. US District Judge James Donato in San Francisco ordered the Alphabet-owned company to overhaul its mobile app business for greater competition.
Epic filed a lawsuit in 2020, accusing Google of monopolising how consumers access apps on Android devices and how they pay for in-app transactions.
