A rare Apple Macintosh prototype, known as #M0001, is set to be auctioned at Bonhams’ History of Science & Technology Sale on October 23. This prototype is one of only two known to exist and is distinguished by its use of a 5.25-inch “Twiggy” disk drive, which was later replaced with a 3.5-inch drive in the commercially released Macintosh in 1984. Earlier, the first Macintosh prototype set a world auction record for a Macintosh computer when it sold for $150,075 in 2019.
