Google pilots enhanced fraud protection for Play Protect in India to combat sideloaded app scams

Google today at the “Google for India” event announced that it is piloting an enhanced fraud protection program in India next month, aimed at combating the rising problem of financial fraud through sideloaded Android apps.
Eugene Liderman, the director of mobile security strategy at Google, emphasised the scale of the problem, stating, “Fraud and scams cost consumers more than $1 trillion in losses globally, and it’s one of the most common forms of cybercrime that India witnesses.”
The enhanced fraud protection feature, part of Google Play Protect, will target apps downloaded from internet sources such as web browsers, messaging apps, and file managers.
