Cyber fraud case: Police left red-faced as court grants bail to 37 accused

Phase 1 police was left red-faced on Monday after the district court granted bail to 37 persons who were accused in an alleged cyber fraud case. The bail was granted on the grounds that the police could not present the challan in a stipulated time period of 90 days.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Anish Goyal granted the bail to 37 persons who were arrested by Phase 1 police on June 25 after raiding a fake call centre in Industrial Area Phase 8-B. The counsels of the accused applied for the bail under section 167(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The court granted the bail subject to the conditions which include furnishing of bail bonds in a time-bound manner.
