7 states, 1 week, 18 arrests: Delhi Police cracks down on cyber fraudsters
Earlier this year, a wing commander in Delhi put up his 2BHK apartment for rent on a popular property aggregator website. A man texted him on WhatsApp, stating that another Army official had shown interest in his property.
“The man told the wing commander that he would make the payment from an Army Merchant account but since that account belongs to the government, he needed proof that the account he would be making the payment to was genuine. He convinced the wing commander to transfer Rs 2.29 lakh to his account, promising that he would return it. As soon as the money was transferred, the man blocked the wing commander,” said a police official.
