Instagram ‘friend’ from UK dupes Mumbai woman of Rs 24 lakh

A 31-year-old woman from Mumbai’s Mahim was allegedly cheated of Rs 24.07 lakh by a fraudster who befriended her on Instagram, the police said, adding that they have begun investigating the matter. The fraudster posed as a senior functionary working for MSC Cruises, a Geneva-based Swiss-Italian global cruise line.

The complainant, who works as an accountant in a private company, said that in February this year, she received a friend request on Instagram from a person named Torres Neil. He told her that he works at MSC Cruises and lives in the United Kingdom.
