10 credit cards in your name, illegal transactions, and a revoked passport: How cyber thugs scam you over the phone

Cyber fraudsters who duped numerous US citizens and were arrested by the State Cyber Cell in May used to threaten their victims by claiming their email accounts were linked to child pornography and betting sites. The fraudsters would then gain access to the victims’ computers and make unauthorised transactions.

The State Cyber Cell presented a challan in the district court regarding a case registered on May 15, following the bust of a call centre in Industrial Area, Phase-VII. According to the challan, the accused used pre-written scripts and specific software to gain access to their victims’ computers.
