TRAI proposes new terahertz spectrum for research and trials, includes assignment-exempt bands

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended setting up a new experimental authorisation for operations in the Terahertz band (95GHz – 3THz frequency bands) to promote research and development, technology trials, and indoor and outdoor testing by Indian entities.

The telecom regulator has also recommended permitting authorisation and assignment-exempt operations in the 116-123 GHz, 174.8-182 GHz, 185-190 GHz, and 244-246 GHz frequency bands in India.

Authorisation period should be five years, for a fee of Rs 1,000, Trai said.
