Ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt suggests remote working hurt company in race against OpenAI

Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, has found himself in hot waters after suggesting that the company did not anticipate the early rise of ChatGPT and generative AI because its employees prioritised working from home.

“Google decided that work-life balance and going home early and working from home was more important than winning,” Schmidt said in a chat with students at Stanford University in the United States of America.
